About The Office of the State Auditor General
The Office of the State Auditor-General of Akwa Ibom State was established in October 1987 along with other Ministries and Departments after the creation of Akwa Ibom State on 23rd September, 1987. All the indigenes of AKS who were serviing in the Audit Department of the former Cross River State moved to Uyo with their State’s share of office furniture, equipment, motor vehicles etc, and established the AKS Headquarters of the Audit Department at No. 4 Williams Street, Uyo. The nine Zonal Offices which existed in AKS before the State creation were retained, while a new office was later opened at No. 3 Obio Imo Lane, Uyo.
The Department was headed by a Director of Audit until 1988 when the Audit Department was renamed Office of the Auditor-General and the Director of Audit also renamed State Auditor-General.
The Office of the State Auditor-General has undergone significant changes and improvements since that time.
The improvements have included the introduction of an audit manual and auditing standards; the introduction of performance audit unit and computers. These have improved the quality and timeliness of the audit work, leading to a more positive outlook on the part of members of the public.
